A Slice of Laramie salutes the 2020 grads

This time last year I made the observation that it must be UW’s graduation weekend because I’d driven past 3 houses with people playing cornhole in the front yard. I miss Laramie’s graduation weekend vibe. The weather’s nice, people are happy, and a few days later Laramie suddenly doesn’t have traffic any more. (I say “traffic,” but come on.)

High school graduation weekend is a good time, too; I feel so bad for our high school seniors, who will be spending the weekend much differently than they anticipated. On the one hand, I know that in the grand scheme of things a high school graduation ceremony is not high on most people’s list of treasured moments. But that’s for those of us looking back. For those students in that moment right now, it’s still their biggest accomplishment, and they don’t get to celebrate it properly.

This weekend I will drag my cornhole set out to my front yard and play a game in honor of the 2020 graduates. Everything else might be upside down, but at least the weather will be nice, and Laramie still has no traffic.
