Eight Puppies and their Mother each Looking for Homes in Laramie

Eight puppies and their young mother are currently available for adoption in Laramie! Local community member, Lisa McElwee, began fostering these sweet canines six weeks ago on the day they were born. McElwee says, “I got the mom at about 8:30 at night, and she started having puppies at 4:00 in the morning…I did not think it was going to be that same day!”

McElwee is fostering through the Laramie Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) until the pups are old enough to join other Laramie families through the Foster to Forever Program. This program allows for a puppy to be fostered at seven to eight weeks, with the goal to be fully adopted after being spayed or neutered. This tends to be at around fifteen weeks.

The puppies currently weigh between four to six pounds and after a DNA test, are believed to be a mixed breed of Australian Cattle Dog, American Pitbull Terrier, Border Collie, Labrador Retriever, Siberian Husky and German Shepherd.

These eight pups, five female and three male, turned six weeks on March 8th and are already developing their own personalities. “They all are just so happy all the time,” McElwee says. “They all love to cuddle and play, they are always up to some kind of shenanigans.”

Because the mother dog is named Caroline, McElwee decided to name each puppy after a Neil Diamond song. “Neil is the most chill and Grace is one of the smaller girls, she is an escape artist, she can get out of anything…Gloria has a really great nose, she can sniff out anything.”

Caroline, the mother dog who is also looking for a home, loves being around small children and does great in McElwee’s farm environment. “She does not chase our horses, she does not chase chickens, she does great.” Both the mother and her puppies get along wonderfully with McElwee’s other dogs, playing with them and enjoying their company.

Rosie was the first born but is the smallest pup. She is very sweet, loves to snuggle, and tries to keep the peace in the kennel.

Neil is the second born and is the second biggest. With a chocolate coat and sweet eyes, he’s a real ladies-man!

Ruby, the third born, has light eyes and is red with a sweet white tip on her tail. She loves her toys!

Shilo is the second boy and he is a chunk! Shilo is always the first to chase the other big dogs of the house, and is energetic and athletic. This pup loves to sit on his person’s lap, perfect if you are looking for a “Velcro dog.”

Grace is the brave one of the litter, she ventured first, jumps first, and investigates first. Grace is a social butterfly, playing well with other dogs. She is on the smaller side and has a short coat.

Magic Mike is the third boy and the biggest of the litter. He is a snuggler and is just too cute!

Gloria has a short, dark coat and is one of the smallest of the litter. She is always happy, playing in the sun with her puppy smile.

Bethany is the youngest but also one of the biggest girls, definitely not a runt! She has a beautiful black coat and she loves to chew her antelope antler.
