Last Wednesday, the Laramie High School ProStart students competed in a multitude of categories at the Wyoming ProStart State Competition including culinary arts, management, and cake baking. One of the notable awards of the day went to the management team who placed first and is headed to nationals in Washington, D.C. The cake baking team also placed first with their geode cake, and the culinary team placed second.

The culinary team competed against five other teams from across the state, each team consisting of four high school students. Teams tasked with creating a full three course meal in only one hour, rehearsing their meal since fall of 2021. The Laramie team’s meal consisted of squid ink pasta stuffed with mascarpone, mushrooms, and spinach for an appetizer, Wyoming braised beer short ribs for an entrĂ©e, and a crepe cake with lemon whipped cream for dessert. Friends and family were invited to come watch the teams cook.

To top off the exciting day, Laramie High School student, Ainsley McCollum, took the state award of Student of the Year and the Laramie ProStart teacher, Kallie Poncelow, was awarded Wyoming’s Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to the Laramie ProStart students and teacher!
