The Laramie Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, and University of Wyoming Police Department will be teaming up this year for the first Annual Laramie area “Shop With A Cop” event on December 18th.

Approximately 25 elementary students from the Albany County School District will be picked up from their respective schools by an officer and taken to Walmart at 4308 E Grand Avenue by a patrol vehicle. Each student will get to shop with an officer and spend approximately $100 as they wish.

The intent of this event is to provide these children with a little merrier holiday season as well as providing them with a positive experience with law enforcement. Any additional funds received above and beyond what is needed for the Shop with a Cop event will go to providing school lunches for children in need throughout Albany County who cannot afford to buy them and who may not qualify for the federally funded programs.

The hope of the law enforcement agencies is to build on this program in the upcoming years in order to reach more students in the future. Through the generosity of the public, Walmart, and local businesses, the hope is to start a successful and ongoing program for our community.

Monetary support for this event is being provided by generous donations from Walmart Supercenter, local businesses, members of our community, and the Laramie Police Department Foundation. Contributions will continue to be taken by the Laramie Police Department Foundation, which is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization and can be mailed to:
