Home Schedule

Of Wyoming’s six home games, the first two will feature early afternoon kickoffs.  The home opener on Saturday, Sept. 3 vs. Tulsa will kick off at 1:30 p.m., Mountain Time from Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium and will be televised nationally on FS1.  Wyoming and Tulsa have played each other six previous times with the series tied at 3-3.  Tulsa won the most recent meeting in 2019 in Tulsa by a 24-21 margin.  The last time the two teams met in Laramie was 1994, with the Cowboys winning 17-7.

Wyoming’s second home game of the 2022 season will be on Saturday, Sept. 10 when  UW will host Northern Colorado in a 2 p.m. kick.  Television or streaming coverage of that game will be announced at a later date.  The series vs. UNC dates all the way back to 1895.  Wyoming holds an 18-5 advantage in the series with three ties.  The two teams have not met since 2013 when UW won 35-7 in Laramie.

A nationally-televised Friday night game on Sept. 16 will highlight the 60th meeting in the Wyoming-Air Force rivalry when the Falcons travel to Laramie to face the Cowboys.  That game will be televised on CBS Sports Network and kick time is set for 6 p.m.  The series between the two Front Range rivals is extremely close, with Air Force holding a mere four-game advantage in the series, with 30 wins to Wyoming’s 26.  There have been three ties in the series.

The next three Wyoming home games of 2022 will feature the last three Mountain West Conference Champions.  On Saturday Oct. 1, the San Jose State Spartans come to Laramie to face the Cowboys in another CBSSN televised game.  Kickoff of the Wyoming-San Jose State game will be 5:30 p.m.  The Spartans won the MW title in 2020.

The lone Wyoming home game time that has not been set is the Saturday, Oct. 22 meeting versus Utah State.  That game will be televised on one of the FOX Sports Networks.  The game time and exact FOX Sports Network will be announced at a future date by FOX.  This year’s meeting will be the 72nd in the series between Wyoming and Utah State.  The Aggies won the MW championship a year ago in 2021, but the Cowboys came away with a 44-17 victory in Logan, Utah, last season handing USU one of its only three losses.

The Cowboys will conclude their six-game home schedule on Saturday, Nov. 19 hosting Boise State in a 5 p.m. game that will be televised on CBS Sports Network.  The Broncos were the 2019 MW champions.

Road Schedule

Wyoming’s 2022 season opener will be on the road at Illinois on Saturday, Aug. 27 and will kick off at 2 p.m., Mountain Time.  That game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.  It will be the first meeting between the Cowboys and Illini in football and the first time since 2017 that Wyoming has played a Big Ten team.  The Pokes traveled to Iowa in 2017.

The Cowboys’ other non-conference road game in 2022 will be played at old rival BYU on Saturday, Sept. 24.  That game will be televised on one of the ESPN Networks.  Game time and the specific ESPN network will be announced at a later date by ESPN.  This year’s meeting will be the first between the two teams since 2016 when they met in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.  The Cougars won that last meeting 24-21.  BYU is Wyoming’s third oldest rival in terms of games played behind only Colorado State (113 meetings) and Utah (83).  This year’s meeting will be the 79th in the series between UW and BYU.  Wyoming has won 30 of the previous meetings, BYU has won 45 and there have been three ties.

On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Pokes will be in Albuquerque, N.M., to play the New Mexico Lobos in a 5:00 p.m. game televised on CBS Sports Network.  The Cowboy-Lobo series is the fourth longest for Wyoming, with this season’s meeting marking the 75th in the series.  The Pokes lead the overall series with 39 wins to New Mexico’s 35.

Wyoming will have its first of two bye weeks on Oct. 15.  Following a home game versus Utah State on Saturday, Oct. 22, UW will travel to Hawai’i on Saturday, Oct. 29.  After hosting the Rainbow Warriors in 2020 and 2021, Wyoming will make its first trip to Honolulu since 2018.  Game time and television coverage will be announced by Hawai’i in the future.

UW will enjoy its second bye week after returning from Hawai’i.  The Cowboys will use that time to prepare for the annual “Border War” with rival Colorado State on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Fort Collins, Colo.  CBS Sports Network will televise the “Battle for the Bronze Boot” in a game kicking off at 5:00 p.m.  The longest rivalry for both schools, the 2022 meeting will be the 114th in history.  Wyoming is coming off a 31-17 victory over the Rams in 2021.

Wyoming will conclude the 2022 regular season with a Friday night road game at Fresno State the day after Thanksgiving.  That Nov. 25 game will kick at 8 p.m., Mountain Time and will be televised on FS1.

2022 Schedule Filled With Bowl Teams

There are seven teams on Wyoming’s 2022 schedule who, like the Cowboys, earned bowl bids last season.  Those 2022 Wyoming opponents who earned bowl bids a year ago include non-conference teams BYU and Tulsa and Mountain West Conference opponents Air Force, Boise State, Fresno State, Hawai’i and Utah State.  Four of those postseason teams will play in Laramie — Tulsa, Air Force, Boise State and Utah State.  The Cowboys concluded the 2021 season with a bowl win of their own, defeating Kent State 52-38 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
