Pet Exercise While Social Distancing

A message from the Laramie Animal Shelter –

“Lots of folks are taking to the parks and trails for some open air and sun during these days of social distancing.  A good many of those people are dog owners taking their dogs with them into these settings.

We’d like to remind dog owners that there is a city-wide leash law.  Dogs off their owner’s real property must be on a physical leash and the leash must be in the hands of a person capable of controlling the dog.  Voice control and electronic collars do not comply with city ordinance.

There are three designated locations where dogs can exercise off leash in the city limits.  These are the fenced, designated area in the northeast corner of Optimist Park at Spruce and Garfield, the fenced in area on the northern edge of the Aragon Complex near 22nd and Harney and the north end of Depot Park.

The Laramie River Greenbelt and the Cirrus Sky complex path are both inside the city limits and are subject to the leash law provisions.  All other city parks and all public streets, sidewalks and alleyways are as well.  If you would like to view an online, interactive map that clearly illustrates the city limits you can go to https://gis.cityoflaramie.org/planning/ where you can find and use the interactive city map.

The officers of Laramie’s Division of Animal Control will be actively patrolling the community to enforce these provisions and mitigate conflicts occurring due to the increase in user traffic.  We are sure to see dog owners out with their companions enjoying some stress relief.  We hope to find folks in compliance with the leash law for everyone’s maximum enjoyment of these community, open spaces.

Stay safe and healthy during this time and don’t forget to wash your paws.”
