While I’m on vacation to a part of the country full of people who couldn’t find Wyoming on a map, here’s an old column:

Sometimes I forget that the vast majority of the non-Wyoming part of the United States has never heard of Laramie. However, I am always reminded of this fact when I have to give my address out over the phone.

Me: Laramie, Wyoming, 82070.

Them: What was the city again?

Me: Laramie.

Them: Larrabee?

Me: Laramie.

Them: Can you spell that?

Me: L-A-R-A-M-I-E

Them: Oh! I would not have guessed that. I’ve never heard of Laramie.

Millennials have the right idea: do everything online, no more talking on the phone ever.
