Laramie Officer Promoted to Sergeant

A ceremony last Friday was held at the Laramie Police Department for newly promoted Officer Asa Hutchinson. Chief of Police Dale Stalder was joined by Assistant Chief Robert Terry, City officials, fellow officers, retired officers, family and friends, to celebrate Officer Hutchinson’s promotion to rank of Sergeant.

Sergeant Asa Hutchinson started his career in Law Enforcement with an internship with LPD in 2014, as part of his bachelor program and was hired as an officer in 2015.

Prior to the promotion to Sergeant the positions Hutchinson held were Officer, Field Training Officer and Lead Instructor for Less Lethal Training.

Sergeant Hutchinson still holds positions as CIT Officer, bike patrol officer, lead impact mutations instructor, TASER instructor, OC instructor, distraction device instructor, chemical munitions instructor, verbal judo instructor,excited delirium and agitated chaotic events instructor and is a member of the LPD hostage negotiations team.

Prior to being an officer with LPD Hutchinson worked for Cathedral Home for Children for about 7 months, and Prior to that he worked seasonally during the summers while attending school for five years, with the U.S. Forest Service on the Black Hills National Forest.

Sergeant Hutchinson has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Wyoming.
