It is with great excitement that the City of Laramie welcomes the new Chief of Police, Brian  Browne. Since starting his new role in November 2022, Chief Browne has established himself in  his position and aims to establish his and the Laramie Police Department’s reputation as a trusted  community resource.

Laramie residents can expect to see Chief Browne within the community, interacting with the  many local organizations throughout Laramie. One of his biggest goals is to ensure the community  views the Police Department as an entity they can trust. Similarly, he places great importance on  the department understanding the community and how to best protect it.

“Building trust comes through building relationships. My goal is for Laramie PD to  continue building relationships with college students, the LGBTQ+ community, and our  nonprofits. I want to be part of those communities and for them to feel comfortable  coming to the Police Department when in need.”

The City of Laramie, Laramie Police Department, and Chief Browne invite you to attend Police  Chief Meet and Greet events on the following occasions:

1. Tuesday, February 7th from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Albany County Public Library (310 S  8th St.)

2. Wednesday, February 15th from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Community Center  (365 W Grand Ave.)

3. Thursday, February 23rd from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at WyoTech, Auto Shop (1767 Venture  Dr.)

Chief Browne recognizes that Laramie hasn’t always known everything the Police Department  does. He looks forward to re-introducing the Police Department to the community and  highlighting the phenomenal officers that serve. Chief Browne hopes to establish Laramie PD as a  welcoming resource to Laramie and change any negative perceptions.

“My vision for the Laramie PD is to strengthen our relations with the community, and  that’s done through transparency. We’ve done a really great job behind the curtain  responding to service calls and crime issues and addressing problems in the community.  Now, I want to open the doors for people to see what our guys are doing and build trust  with the community as a whole.

Brian Browne began his law enforcement career with the Montclair Police Department in  Southern California before transferring to the Anaheim Police Department. Over the last 20 years,  Brian has risen through the ranks and served as a Captain in Anaheim, where he oversaw the  Operations Support Division. After visiting Laramie several years ago, Chief Browne immediately  saw Laramie as a perfect place to raise a family and decided to make the move.

“It took my wife and I a little while to get here, but we couldn’t be more excited to be a  part of this community. I consider the opportunity to serve the Laramie community as  their Police Chief to be a great privilege. I approach this tremendous responsibility with  unwavering professionalism, humility, and a commitment to working with our entire  community in partnership.”

While in California, Chief Browne gained extensive investigative experience as a Homicide  Detective, Gang Investigator, and Safe School Investigator. He has been actively involved with the  communities he’s served throughout his career and aims to continue community engagement and support in Laramie.

Before his career in law enforcement, Chief Browne was a medic in the United States Army  National Guard, where his service included a deployment in Kosovo. He has a Bachelor of Science  degree in Organizational Leadership from BIOLA University and a Master of Science in Criminal  Justice. Throughout his education, Chief Browne always sought ways to serve his community. It  wasn’t until he went on a ride along after serving in the National Guard that he fell in love with  police work.

“I really enjoy being a part of the community and getting to know people and working  with them to solve issues that, in essence, benefit all of us, especially the youth.  Community engagement is a huge portion of what I’m looking to bring to Laramie which  we have already began doing with Coffee with a Cop and Shop with a Cop.”
