After last season’s optimistic yet unfortunate end at the 2022 Mid America Regional Tournament, your Wyoming Cowboy Baseball team is set to start the 2023 season at an exciting Swing into Spring – Panama City Beach event in Florida March 13-15. This is a National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) Spring Training where teams from all over the country will travel to Panama City Beach. The University of Wyoming is one of 49 schools set to compete. The Pokes will square off against Illinois first, then Northern Iowa, UT Chattanooga, and Purdue. This will be a change of pace for the Cowboys as this roster has never faced these schools as a team.

After speaking about the Cowboys upcoming season, James Cave, President of the club had this to say, “I’m excited for this season. After going to Kearney, Nebraska last season for the regional tournament we got some drive this year to go further and make it to the finals. The boys have been working hard in the indoor practice facility and at the hitting facility. I’m proud that this group of guys will be representing Wyoming in Florida and Arizona this coming season. For all my Pokes fans, we will have games the weeks of April 15-16 and 22-26 at home at Cowboy Field, so come by and cheer on some Pokes baseball! For those of you who want to help further in supporting Cowboy baseball, we will be selling jerseys and hats at our home games! Lastly, go Pokes!”

The Cowboys are coming off a 10-8 overall record with an 8-4 record in conference play, finishing in 2nd place. Just .5 games behind University of Colorado Boulder and .5 games ahead of Colorado State University.

In addition, the Cowboys will be playing the University of Arizona April 29th-30th.

With conference play starting just a week after the tournament’s end, the Cowboys look to punch their ticket to the playoffs again. Leading the way for your Pokes this year are James Cave, Robert Ziegler, Spencer Theis, Julian Pedroza, and Carson Silacci, with volunteer help of Jordan Evans and Austin Perry.

And Pete Sodano spending his 2nd year with the team had this to say, “I think the team has tons of potential. The returning players are a strong group and we’ve been lucky to have some really talented ball players join the team. We all have high expectations and the team chemistry is unmatched. I see this team going deep into the playoffs and having a lot of fun.”
