3rd Street Utility Rehabilitation: Progress Report

Browse By

The 3rd Street Utility Rehabilitation Project in Laramie is a crucial infrastructure endeavor impacting residents, businesses, and traffic. Most of the work has been completed south of the 3rd Street and Grand Avenue intersection, with only a four-block section from Grand to Sheridan remaining. Additionally, a section near Fetterman Street requires replacement due to historical water line issues. The goal is to finish construction north of Sheridan Street by November 1st, coinciding with the University of Wyoming football game against Colorado State.

Despite challenges like century-old pipes, gas lines, varying soil types, and weather-related delays, the city is committed to completing this project within the year. This effort lays the foundation for future projects, including WYDOT’s 2025 plan to repave 3rd Street, aiming to prevent future water breaks.

The 3rd Street Rehabilitation Project replaces the existing 6” waterline with variable pipe sizes (8” to 16”). Despite challenges, the city and the contractor are working diligently to maintain efficiency.

Downtown Laramie is particularly affected, prompting close collaboration with business owners and the Laramie Main Street Alliance. Efforts include signage, direct communication on intersection closures, and expected water outages. Pedestrian access remains a priority, with integrated walkways and temporary crosswalks.

Residents are encouraged to support downtown businesses during this project, as it doesn’t compromise safety. Clear crosswalks and ongoing communication with business owners minimize disruption.
