Laramie is welcoming a new addition to its medical community this month. Dr. Timothy Govaerts, a highly experienced internal medicine physician with over 26 years of expertise, is joining the Primary Care clinic at Ivinson Medical Group (IMG).
Dr. Govaerts, a board-certified physician, is known for his specialization in treating diabetes, hypertension, and general internal medicine needs. Previously, he practiced as a nephrologist, caring for patients with chronic kidney disease, dialysis patients, and those in need of transplantation. At IMG, he will be focusing on primary care and internal medicine with some nephrology services.
Expressing his excitement, Dr. Govaerts shared, “I am very excited to work with the excellent physicians here at Ivinson Medical Group and continue our collaborative patient care in Laramie and throughout Wyoming.”
Dr. Govaerts earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska and completed his residency in internal medicine. He furthered his medical training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he completed his Fellowship in Nephrology, specializing in kidney care.
Family values hold a special place in Dr. Govaerts’ practice and personal life. He emphasizes, “I take care of my patients like I would like someone to care for my family.” It was his family that led him to Laramie, a place he now calls home. Dr. Govaerts discovered his deep connection to the city when his sons attended college here, and he and his wife made it their cherished home, along with their two beloved dogs.
In addition to his medical work, Dr. Govaerts is passionate about education. He dedicates his time to teaching medical students participating in the WWAMI program at the University of Wyoming. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling to see family, playing golf, and indulging in reading.
