Preschool Open Gym: Beat the Winter Blues at Laramie Recreation Center

Browse By

The City of Laramie Recreation Center offers a warm escape for families this winter with their Preschool Open Gym, held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Tailored for toddlers and preschool-aged kids, the gym floor transforms into an indoor playground equipped with age-appropriate tools, focusing on balance and motor skill development.

Recreation Coordinator Laura Tangeman emphasizes the importance of staying active during winter. “As we head into winter, it becomes tough to get outside and visit Laramie’s parks, so this is an opportunity for parents and their kids to interact with each other and get some physical activity. We supply the space and the equipment, and you bring the energy and imagination.”

Parents and kids can join the Preschool Open Gym with a Rec Center membership or a day pass. Since it’s not staff-supervised, active parental supervision is required. The versatile Gonge equipment allows creative freedom, encouraging families to customize their experience.

Tangeman highlights the flexibility of Gonge equipment: “What’s great about the Gonge equipment is people are welcome to move it around and customize it as much as they like. In general, the Preschool Open Gym is a great opportunity for parents to enjoy some activity with their kids when the weather is cold.”

Adjacent to the Preschool Open Gym is the Rec Zone, featuring climbing walls and interactive pieces for older kids. The Preschool Open Gym runs until April, and a day pass grants access to other Rec Center facilities. It’s also an ideal time to sign up for a Rec Center membership.
