Are you looking for something to do after the holidays? You’re in luck. This weekend brings fun and excitement to the Laramie community with the annual Larry Martin Memorial 8-Ball Invitational pool tournament. If you’re interested in pool, come on down to Mingle’s Lounge located at 3206 Grand Ave.

Anyone is welcome to join the tournament, however most players come from leagues formed through bars and pool halls. The competition will be set for individuals to play for cash and prizes through brackets. Finals will begin on Saturday around 4 p.m. with the final eight individuals playing double elimination. “Our goal is to help boost the community and the economy in this slow time of year. We would love to make this event more of a community event for anyone interested in pool.” Stated Mike Curby with Mike Curby Custom Cues. This event has been known around the region for providing one of the top tier tournaments. It allows players of skill levels ranging from beginner to almost pro. 

This tournament celebrates 14 years as it continues to grow in the community, with hopes of expanding the tournament in the future to reach more than just adults. “We’d love to start a juniors portion to include everyone interested in pool and help crush the stigma behind the event.” Said Curby. This would provide more families the ability to find a sport together. This event was renamed 8 years ago after a legendary icon here in the pool world and in the Laramie community, Larry Martin. 

There will be open free play all day Thursday, Jan. 4, in preparation for the big event. The tournament will be kicking off Friday, Jan. 5, at 10 a.m. and will go through Sunday. With 136 players from six different states, there will be four divisions based on skill levels.The kick off for the tournament will be a blind drawn scotch, where people will be playing doubles and one on one matches. The diamond tables are also open. Come check out the Mingle’s Lounge where double dubs will be outside selling wings, there will be drink specials going on all tournament, and there are tons of raffles to enter for rocking prizes from this year’s sponsors. “We want to give a huge shout out to all of our sponsors. Without them, none of this would be possible.” said Curby.
