Albany and Laramie County Schools Selected for National Jazz Education Program, May 13-17

Albany and Laramie County public schools have been chosen as two of only five districts nationwide to host the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz’s Peer-to-Peer jazz education program from May 13-17, 2024. The program will feature performances and educational sessions by the Institute’s National Peer-to-Peer Jazz Quintet, along with renowned artists Terell Stafford and Lisa Henry and jazz educator Dr. JB Dyas.

The weeklong series of events will include free performances open to the public, such as the one at Surbrugg/Prentice Auditorium at Laramie County Community College on May 16.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The program combines musical performances with educational sessions, allowing students to learn from their peers and internationally acclaimed artists. Each school visit includes an assembly program featuring a musical performance, followed by workshops for the school’s jazz band and choir.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

  • Terell Stafford: A top jazz trumpeter, Stafford has performed around the globe and recorded with numerous jazz legends. He is currently the director of jazz studies at Temple University in Philadelphia.

  • Lisa Henry: A dynamic vocalist, Henry has toured the world and performed with renowned jazz artists. She was named an International Jazz Ambassador to Africa by the Herbie Hancock Institute.
