The Laramie Municipal Band will start its summer performances at the 32nd annual Freedom Has a Birthday event on July 4th at Washington Park. The concert, at 10 am in the Edgar J. Lewis Bandshell, will begin the Band’s Summer Concert Series, which continues Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm from July 10th to August 7th.

The Band, established before Wyoming became a state, includes community members, high school students, and University of Wyoming music students. Dr. Robert Belser, celebrating his 20th year as Band Director, says, “The Laramie Municipal Band brings a certain nostalgia that people are looking for; we always have quite the turnout.”

Dr. Belser, who retired this year from the University of Wyoming, enjoys working with past and present students. “Each band member must be well-versed as we only rehearse once before each performance,” he says. The Band plays various genres, from classic marches to show tunes, often with themed concerts.

The series’ first official performance on July 10th will celebrate Wyoming’s Statehood Day with a Western Theme and family-friendly activities. Save the date and bring your family and friends.
