Laramie Young Professionals and Family Promise Join Forces for a Day of Impact: Volunteer Event Set for November 20th

This November, Laramie Young Professionals (LYP) and Family Promise of Albany County are teaming up to host a volunteer event that promises to make a real difference for families in need. Family Promise recently took over the operations of Wyoming Kids’ Closet, to ensure that children and families in Albany County have access to essential items. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 20th, as the community is invited to drop in anytime between 10 AM and 7 PM at the United Presbyterian Church, 215 S 11th St.

The event, aptly named “Taking Over the Closet,” aims to rally young professionals and local residents to support Family Promise’s new venture with Wyoming Kids’ Closet. The partnership was formed to meet the pressing needs of families in Albany County, especially as winter sets in.

Connecting Young Professionals with Community Service

Sena Krula, representing Laramie Young Professionals, shared the group’s vision:
“Laramie Young Professionals is about more than just career growth; it’s also about fostering community engagement,” Sena explained. “This collaboration not only helps us build awareness for our organization but also introduces our members—many of whom are new to Laramie—to the tangible ways they can make a positive impact here. By getting involved, they see firsthand how their efforts can benefit local families, which inspires even more community involvement.”

This renewed focus on community service is part of LYP’s efforts to revitalize the organization after a hiatus in recent years. Sena emphasized that the group is gaining momentum, with plans to make volunteering a core requirement for members moving forward into 2024.

Addressing Urgent Needs for Families in Laramie

Family Promise of Albany County recently took over the operations of Wyoming Kids’ Closet, and the needs are already piling up. Celeste Prall from Family Promise spoke about the urgent demand for basic necessities:
“In just the last two and a half weeks, we’ve had multiple families reach out for essentials like socks, underwear, winter coats, and snow boots,” Celeste noted. “With winter approaching, these items become even more critical. Beyond clothing, our diaper and hygiene pantry is constantly in need, especially sizes 3 to 6. We run out of those almost weekly.”

Family Promise has long been a lifeline for families struggling to make ends meet. By providing essential items and support services, they help families stay on their feet during tough times. Celeste shared that community donations are vital to keeping these programs running. “We always appreciate donations, whether it’s funds, gift cards for groceries, or gently used winter clothing,” she said.

How You Can Get Involved

The event on November 20th is a great way for the Laramie community to support this mission while connecting with like-minded professionals. Volunteers can sign up for a shift or simply drop by when they have time. And there’s more than just the feel-good factor—participants will also be entered into drawings for hourly prizes, with a special grand prize up for grabs.

“We want people to know that their efforts matter,” Sena added. “Even if someone can’t volunteer on the 20th, just spreading the word about the resources available at Wyoming Kids’ Closet can make a huge difference.”
