The U.S. Forest Service has announced that all National Forest System roads on the Pole Mountain unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest are now open for public motorized travel. The roads were opened in stages over the past week, with careful consideration given to public safety and natural resource sustainability.

Visitors to Pole Mountain can also enjoy two developed campgrounds, Vedauwoo and Yellow Pine, which are now open for the season. Additionally, designated dispersed campsites along the 700 Road (Vedauwoo Road) are available for use.

Forest Service personnel recently completed a series of maintenance projects, including culvert installations, seasonal road upkeep, cheatgrass spraying, and prescribed fire preparation. These efforts, combined with dry ground conditions, allowed the Laramie Ranger District to safely open all roads for motorized use.

The Forest Service emphasizes the importance of staying on designated routes while driving within the forest. Off-road travel is strictly prohibited, and visitors should refer to the Pole Mountain Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for detailed guidance. MVUMs are available for free online.

Visitors are also reminded of annual shooting restrictions on the Pole Mountain unit, which are in effect from March 31 to September 10 each year. Dispersed camping along the 700 Road is only allowed in designated locations, and Forest Service staff will continue to monitor and clear blowdown trees on trails as needed.

The Pole Mountain unit, covering approximately 55,000 acres, is a popular outdoor destination located between Laramie and Cheyenne. Those planning to visit should be mindful of seasonal conditions and adhere to all posted regulations to help protect the natural environment.
