Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Bright Star moves between the 1920s and 1940s to follow Alice Murphy, a successful literary editor whose encounter with young writer Billy Cane sends her on a journey of discovery and redemption. Inspired by a true story — and by Martin and Brickell’s Grammy-winning bluegrass album Love Has Come for You — the musical celebrates the power of forgiveness and the beauty of second chances.
Martin and Brickell’s collaboration blends heartfelt storytelling with foot-tapping folk and bluegrass music, creating a show that’s as soulful as it is uplifting. With UW’s exceptional student talent and creative leadership, Bright Star is one of those productions you’ll want to see — and hear — live right here in Laramie.
