Late February in Laramie can feel like the heart of winter, but it is also a time when people are itching for inspiration and connection. On Friday, February 27th, the Backcountry Film Festival will bring exactly that to the Gryphon Theatre for an evening centered on adventure, storytelling, and the outdoors that surround us.

A Night Rooted in Adventure and Storytelling
Hosted by Hermes Base Camp in partnership with Winter Wildlands Alliance, the festival is a celebration of wild places and the people who explore and protect them. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with films beginning at 7:30, giving attendees time to settle in, catch up with friends, and soak in the atmosphere before the night begins.
Whether you spend your weekends skiing, hiking, climbing, or simply appreciating Wyoming’s open spaces, this event is meant to resonate with anyone who feels at home outdoors.
Supporting Local Outdoor Organizations
Beyond the films themselves, the festival is rooted in community. Local outdoor nonprofit groups will be part of the evening, offering a chance to learn more about the organizations working behind the scenes to protect and support the places Laramie locals love.
There will also be a raffle featuring a variety of prizes, adding another layer of excitement to the night and giving attendees a fun way to support these groups.
An Event Open to Everyone
One of the best parts of the Backcountry Film Festival is its accessibility. The event is completely free, making it easy to bring friends, family, classmates, or anyone who enjoys a good story and a shared experience.
It is the kind of event that turns into a spontaneous night out, where you might show up for the films and leave with new ideas, new motivation, or even new connections.

Finding Inspiration Close to Home
The Backcountry Film Festival is about more than watching stories unfold on a screen. It is about being reminded why we explore, why we care about wild spaces, and why community matters, especially in a place like Laramie.
By the end of the night, you may find yourself inspired to plan your next adventure, try something new, or appreciate the landscape that makes living here so special.
