Sometimes, when I can’t think of what to write about for this column, I ask on social media what people think about when they hear or read “Wyoming.” Here is a taste of some of those responses:
Longmire. Just Longmire.
Wyoming’s state abbreviation is WY, which is appropriate. Because Wyoming… why?
Wyoming is the “equality state,” as in we are all equally bored.
The name Wyoming is derived from the Munsee word xwé:wamənk, meaning “at the big river flat”. That was the most interesting landmark about Wyoming at the time, so they just went with it.
What is the DEAL with mountains?????
It’s shaped like a square, right?
I went “Wyom-ing” this week. It’s like “Colorado-ing”, but instead of smoking weed and skiing it’s just screaming on a mountain and wondering where everyone went.
It seems like people on the internet have some misconceptions about Wyoming! What are the most common misconceptions about Wyoming that YOU would like people to know the truth about?
