The City of Laramie has been focused on revitalizing the old K-Mart building and strip mall on Third Street. Despite interest from potential businesses, no deals were sealed since its closure in 2018. In December 2022, the City Council approved a new development plan for the space.
The agreement paves the way for Ross, HomeBase, and Ulta Beauty to occupy the vacant 87,000-square-foot space, catering to Laramie’s demand for home goods and clothing. This move is expected to bring job opportunities, tax revenue, and attract more businesses to the area.
The City anticipates that these new storefronts will meet the needs of residents, students, and visitors alike, while enhancing the aesthetic of Third Street and keeping revenue within Laramie. Derek Teini, the Community and Economic Development Director, expressed excitement about improving the shopping experience and quality of life in Laramie.
Community input has played a significant role in this development, with City Council meetings providing a platform for public comment. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in shaping the future of the community.
