Feeding Laramie Valley (FLV) is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a community-wide party on August 17th. The event, Food and Fun in the Park(s), will take place from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at three locations: the main office at LaBonte Park, Kiwanis Park, and the production farm at the Albany County Fairgrounds.
Over the past 15 years, FLV has worked tirelessly to ensure everyone in the community has access to healthy food. Their SHARES program provides free produce, Kids Out to Lunch offers summer meals for children, and the Community Composting program promotes sustainability.
A press release stated, “This year FLV has much to celebrate and thank the community for, so they’re throwing a town-wide party on Saturday, August 17th.”
The celebration also marks the 10th anniversary of Food and Fun in the Park(s), featuring a made-from-scratch meal at Kiwanis Park. The Kids Out to Lunch program chefs will prepare grilled summer kabobs using local ingredients from Sheila Bird Farms and 9-H Ranch. The event will also include live music, gymnastics demos, and various activities.
Each site offers unique attractions. At the Fairgrounds Farm, attendees can enjoy farm tours, free ice cream, and horse-drawn cart rides. The LaBonte Park location will host a pie contest, llama petting, free birthday cake, and other fun activities. To facilitate easy access to all sites, Laramie Connections will provide free transportation between locations.
“This year’s pie contest features expanded categories and more prizes, including sweet, savory, hand pies, specialty, and junior categories,” the press release added. A free ingredient pantry is available for those wishing to enter the contest.
Event sponsors include Ridley’s Family Markets, Cowboy Glass, Snowy Range Flea Market, Elway Powersports, and Poppy’s. For more information, visit www.feedinglaramievalley.org or contact FLV at (307) 223-4399.
