This holiday season, the Laramie Fire Department (LFD) invites everyone to help “Keep the Wreath Red” by preventing fires and spreading awareness about holiday fire safety. The annual campaign kicks off on December 1st with a red-lit wreath displayed outside Fire Station 1 on Ivinson Avenue. Each red bulb represents the community’s commitment to safety. If a holiday-related fire occurs, a red bulb will be replaced with a white one—a somber reminder of the importance of vigilance.
Candles, cooking, and festive decorations are major fire risks during December. LFD Shift Commander Gus Stonum highlights the dangers of unattended cooking:
“It only takes a few minutes for a fire to start. Turn off the stove if you need to step away and always keep a fire extinguisher nearby.”
Everyone can do their part by being mindful:
- Never leave cooking unattended.
- Keep candles away from flammable items.
- Use lights and electronics safely.
Share your fire safety efforts using #KeepTheWreathRed and help spread the word. Together, we can keep Laramie safe and festive this holiday season!
