The Laramie Soup Kitchen has proved to the Laramie community that they aren’t just striving for success in serving food, but to aid every individual with a warm meal and a safe place in the community with their newest fundraiser: the Laramie Community CookBook 2019.
“The collection of recipes were donated from members of the community, members of our board and some are recipes from the soup kitchen,” said Sarah Carroll, the deputy director of Laramie Soup Kitchen.
Carroll said the idea of a cookbook emerged when her colleagues and her were brainstorming fresh fundraiser ideas and the idea of Laramie Soup Kitchen’s first cookbook was born.
“I would estimate that I put around 30ish hours trying to make sure that all the recipes were uniform in the same conversions so it would be really easy on the reader,” Carroll said.
There are basic conversion tables and basic measurement aids at the beginning. The cookbook is divided into 5 sections: Appetizers + Beverages, Soups + Salads, Vegetables + Side Dishes, Breads + Rolls and Main Dishes. The overall look of the cookbook is sleek and functional.
“The cookbook is super clean because of the amount of work that Sarah poured in,” said Ted Cramer, executive director of the Laramie Soup Kitchen. “Anyone could try to put a cookbook together like this, but it’s not going to be as put together and as well done as what Sarah has done here.”
Sarah is very pleased with the binded, finished copy of the the cookbook but she is already scheming how to improve for next year.
“Next year I know I want to collect more recipes from more sectors of Laramie,” Carroll said. “We have a recipe from the First Lady of Wyoming, recipes from business people, from guests at the Soup Kitchen. But there are more chefs, more people from different groups could make it an even better representation of Laramie.
The Laramie Community Cookbook 2019 is $20 and can be purchased by email or stop in to the Laramie Soup Kitchen office.
