Guillermo Adolfo Brizuela Cruz, a local man who has lived in Laramie off and on for the past 55 years, began photographing Laramie sunsets and sunrises two years ago. Since he began, Guillermo has taken and shared daily photos of both sunsets and sunrises, adding up to nearly 60,000 photographs of Laramie skies.
“I always liked the skies,” Guillermo says. “The first time I took a picture of the sunsets and sunrises, I was looking for a personal hobby.” Guillermo explains that people from all over then began to ask about and share his photography. “My daughter’s mother-in-law…who was fighting cancer for thirty-five years, she wrote me a note about my photos, saying that a lot of people who are sick cannot get out to look at the sunsets and sunrises.”
People across different states and even different countries have written to Guillermo and are sharing his photos. “A lot of my friends and even people I didn’t know started writing notes… so I decided to continue, I have people from all over who like the pictures, and they really start liking Laramie. They ask questions here and there about Laramie.”
When asked about his camera and techniques, Guillermo jokes, “I have a very sophisticated camera, my iPod Apple Number 8 telephone…I don’t really use any techniques, I just look at the sky, and if I like it then I take a picture.”
“Sometimes I go back to look at pictures and I really surprised myself, because of the color or the clouds.” Guillermo says. “My favorites are the ones with trees, because one of my trades is tree surgery and I have been doing that with my company for 55 years…My background is also engineering, so I love aim, angle and lines, curves, things like that.”
Guillermo consistently posts a collection of Laramie sunrise photos each morning and a collection of Laramie sunset photos each evening on both his personal Facebook page and on Wyoming Through the Lens. His photos can be found on their page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/704889582866623.
