The inaugural University of Wyoming Leadership Academy recently concluded with students delivering final presentations on key industries and challenges critical to Wyoming’s economy. The event included a graduation ceremony honoring the 20 students who completed the program, with local participants from Laramie and Buford standing out for their contributions.
The academy, a collaboration between UW’s College of Business and Leadership Wyoming, is an immersive program preparing high-achieving students to become future economic and civic leaders. Through industry exploration, direct engagement with civic and business leaders, and a focus on systems leadership, students gained the tools to tackle Wyoming’s unique challenges. Sessions focused on industries such as energy, manufacturing, and tourism, and were held in Casper, Lander, Laramie, and Sheridan.
Local participants included Grace Dorrell of Laramie, a junior studying marketing and professional sales, and Thaddaeus Christensen of Buford, a junior in mechanical engineering with a minor in honors. Both exemplified leadership and innovation during the program.
“It has been inspiring to watch these students dive into Wyoming’s industries and embrace the challenges with such enthusiasm and creativity,” said Mandy Fabel, executive director of Leadership Wyoming.
The program’s success has set a strong foundation for future cohorts. Applications for the next Leadership Academy open at the beginning of the spring semester, with sessions scheduled from August to December 2025. Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate students with a passion for leadership and economic development.
