Join the cast and crew of “MoneyWork$” for the premiere screening on January 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Ballroom in the Laramie Plains Civic Center. This family-friendly video project is designed to teach teens and tweens about financial literacy.
“MoneyWork$” features two videos, complete with music and dancing, of teens and tweens in real-life situations as they learn about budgeting, needs and wants, and online safety. Written by local playwright/educator Deborah Kassner and acted by local Laramie teens and tweens, “MoneyWork$” creates a starting point for families to discuss money and serves as an introduction to a potential schoolwide curriculum on financial literacy. A reception will follow the screening.
The tween-themed “Cupcake and Lemonade Stands” follows the adventures of four tweens who must set up a business for a school entrepreneurial competition. Along the way, they discover budgeting, ways to make a profit, and how to stay safe online.
In the teen-themed “Cars, Prom, and College” episode, eight teens brainstorm ways to earn money, identify wants and needs, and develop skills to resist data mining. These teens work their way through real-life concerns, teaching each other about creating good spending habits and planning for the future.
The “MoneyWork$” premiere event is presented by Deborah Kassner (Director of Laramie Children’s Musical Theater Workshop) and author Marjorie Daley (“The New Adults’ Guide to Basic Finances”) with additional sponsorship support from ANB Bank. This program is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Wyoming Legislature.
