Trailblazing Women of Country to Perform at UW on March 2

Country music fans in Laramie will have a chance to experience a special tribute to legendary female country artists as the University of Wyoming hosts “Trailblazing Women of Country” on Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

Presented as part of UW’s Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Special Events series, this dynamic performance celebrates the music and legacy of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton. The concert features Grammy Award nominee Rissi Palmer and Nashville-based singer Kristina Train, backed by an all-female five-member band.

Cline, Lynn, and Parton paved the way for future generations of female country artists with their chart-topping hits and groundbreaking careers. Their influence continues to shape the industry, and this performance will bring their classic songs to life once again. Audiences can expect to hear favorites such as “Crazy,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “Jolene,” and “9 to 5.”

Kristina Train expressed her excitement for the show, saying, “This program and lineup are truly what dreams are made of. I am thrilled to be performing these beloved songs alongside Rissi Palmer. Her voice is stunning, and I’m prepared to have the chills each night.”

Palmer, who has drawn inspiration from these iconic artists since childhood, added, “It’s an honor to now bring their songs to life on this tour, and I couldn’t be more excited to share this experience with the audience.”

Beyond the music, the concert will highlight how these women harnessed country music’s storytelling tradition to share powerful perspectives on womanhood, resilience, and empowerment. Their legacy continues to inspire artists and audiences alike.

The all-female band supporting Palmer and Train includes music director Megan Coleman on drums and background vocals, Amy Frederick on piano and keyboards, Leandria Lott on acoustic guitar, Lindsey Miller on electric guitar, and Sissy Dinkle on bass—all contributing background vocals.
