Big celebrations are coming to the University of Wyoming! On Wednesday, April 9, at 6 p.m., the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center will be filled with excitement and pride as Native American students are honored at the 2025 Native American Scholarship and Awards Ceremony. This special evening will recognize their hard work, dedication, and incredible achievements, as well as the generous donors who help make their education possible.

UW President Ed Seidel expressed his admiration for the students, saying, “The University of Wyoming is deeply honored to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our Native American students. Their dedication to academic excellence and commitment to their communities embody the very best of our university’s values. We are proud to stand alongside them and the generous donors who are helping to shape a brighter future for Native leaders and our state.”

This ceremony will shine a spotlight on students from Wyoming and the Wind River Reservation who are making a difference through their studies, community service, and even study-abroad experiences. These students are building strong futures for themselves while also strengthening Native leadership and economic growth.

James Trosper, special adviser to the UW president, emphasized how important this event is, stating, “Every scholarship awarded is an opportunity for our youth to reach their goals. This event gives us the opportunity to celebrate their dedication and exceptional work ethic. We could not be more pleased and prouder with how our youth continue to grow in their higher education pursuits.”

More than just an awards ceremony, this event highlights UW’s commitment to Native students and communities. Following the success of last year’s Native American Scholarship Ceremony and the Native American Education, Research and Cultural Center open house, UW continues to create meaningful opportunities for Native students to thrive.

Lucus Hansen, UW Foundation director of development, summed it up perfectly: “This event represents more than scholarship awards — it’s a celebration of the inspiring achievements of our Native students and the generous support of our donors. Together, UW is fostering opportunities that build a stronger future for Native communities and the state of Wyoming.”

The evening will include a formal dinner, guest speakers, and award presentations, bringing together students, faculty, community members, and supporters for a night of inspiration and recognition.
