Governor Gordon signed Wyoming Senate File 0075 into law yesterday, a momentous occasion for Laramie’s water infrastructure. The bill, backed by the House and the Governor, secures funding for the Dowlin Diversion and Headgate Rehabilitation project. With up to 50% of the project’s cost covered, the Wyoming Water Development Commission (WWDC) steps in as the funding source.

This project addresses crucial water management issues in Laramie. It aims to boost water efficiency, improve wildlife habitats with a fish ladder, and enhance staff safety.

Jay Smith, Natural Resource Administrator at the City of Laramie, expressed gratitude, stating, “This funding is a huge win for Laramie and its residents. Thanks to the WWDC, legislature, and Governor Gordon for recognizing its importance.”

Next up for Laramie is selecting an engineering firm for the design work. Construction on the Dowlin Diversion Dam and headgate rehabilitation is slated for 2025.

Smith emphasized, “This project goes beyond infrastructure; it’s about public benefit. It’ll safeguard resources and enrich our community for years.”
